Breaking News: Court Gives Life Imprisonment to 49 Convicts, of Which 8 will be Hanged in 2008 Ahmedabad Serial Blast Case

New Delhi: On Friday, A special court pronounced the death sentence to 38 out of 49 convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case. Out of which

11 were given life imprisonment until death. At least 56 people were killed and over 200 injured in 21 bomb blasts that rocked Ahmedabad city within 70 minutes on July 26, 2008.

According to police officials, “People associated with the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), a faction of radicals of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), were involved in the blasts.”

It was alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists had planned and executed these explosions as revenge for the 2002 post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, in which several persons from the minority community had died. Days after the serial blasts in Ahmedabad, the police recovered bombs from different parts of Surat and 20 FIRs were registered in Ahmedabad and 15 in Surat following the recovery.
